Lady Tigers beat Nixa 4-2
The Ozark High School Lady Tigers improved to 3-1 on the 2008 soccer season with a 4-2 victory over visiting Nixa Thursday, April 3, with another cold, wet win.
The Lady Tigers have now won 3 in a row after dropping a heartbreaking season opener at Waynesville. Ozark is 3-1 overall and opens Central Ozark Conference play with the win over arch-rival Nixa.
Ozark will be back in action again this afternoon (Friday, April 4) in another COC match, playing Willard in a match which was rained out when originally scheduled to be contested at Willard. The makeup match today is scheduled to be played at Ozark.
Against Nixa, Ozark opened the contest with a goal by junior Brittany Matthews, who redirected a rebound off the Nixa keeper into the net in the 30th minute. The rebound came off the Lady Eagles goal keeper after a shot by senior Erica Hogan.
Ozark led 1-0 at half.
The Lady Tigers started the second half with a quick goal as senior Erica Hogan scored.
Just a few moments later, sophomore Megan Gunnels scored to put Ozark on top 3-0.
Nixa’s first goal came from Stephanie Allen.
Ozark went up 4-1 on a goal by sophomore Megan Jenisch, assisted by sophomore Megan Gunnels.
Nixa capped off the scoring when Stephanie Allen scored for the second time.
The Ozark junior varsity remained unbeaten in 5 matches this season with a 4-0 victory over Nixa.
Freshman Danielle Poivre scored the first two goals of the match.
Freshman Mollie Killion and sophomore Kelsie Brown also scored for the Lady Tigers JV.
Ozark led 4-0 by halftime of the JV match.
The Lady Tigers will be busy next week, going to Marshfield for a COC match on Tuesday, April 8, then playing 3 matches in the Christian County Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
