JV Tigers start baseball season with 2-1 record
The Ozark High School Tigers junior varsity baseball team has started the 2008 season with 2 wins and a loss. The Tigers opened the season with a rain-shortened 10-2 victory over visiting Parkway South on March 17. In that contest, Jacob Hangen was the winning pitcher, striking out 3 in 4 innings of work. Ozark scored 5 times in the second on doubles by Daniel McPherson, Reece Elliott, Drew Crain and Justin Johnson and singles by Jacob Hangen and Trevor Burl. The Tigers put the game away with a 5-run fourth. Reece Elliott had a triple, Drew Crain a double and Jacob Hangen and Justin Johnson each singled during the rally. Ozark defeated Webb City 8-0 on Tuesday night with Jacob Hangen earning the pitching decision, striking out 7 in 5 innings of work. In that game, Drew Crain singled, scored twice and reached base safely 3 times. Austin Holtzclaw had two hits, walked, reached on an error, stole a base and scored twice. Dalton Hord scored a run for Ozark. Reece Elliott double, stole a base and scored. Daniel McPherson doubled, walked, scored and stole a base. Matt Jackson walked and scored. Trevor Burk singles and Chris Fann singled for the Tigers. Ozark lost to Lake Zurich, Illinois, on Wedenesday. 9-3. Lake Zurich scored 4 runs in the first, and added 3 in the third, taking a 7-0 lead. The visitors, from a suburb of Chicago, added 2 more runs in the fourth. Ozark got on the board in the fourth when Trevor Burk singled and Jacob Hangen reached safely. Matt Jackson drove in the first Tigers run with a grounder and Tom Wagaman followed with an RBI single. Drew Crain singled and Austin Holtzclaw hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Hangen. Austin Holtzclaw had a single, walked and had a sacrifice fly in the game. Reece Elliott had 2 singles and walked in three trips to the plate. Zummo had 3 hits to lead the Bears.
